NAIROBI, Kenya- A Taiwanese national has been arrested after a K9 sniffer dog detected a consignment of suspected heroin at the Isebania One Stop Border Post in Migori County.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Wang Hsiang-hui, 29, was arrested while entering Kenya from neighbouring Tanzania after security officers intercepted narcotics concealed in his luggage.
According to the DCI, the suspect was subjected to a routine security check when a detection dog picked up a scent from a suspicious bag. The K9 officer reportedly alerted its handlers, leading to a detailed search by detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU).
Inside the bag, officers recovered 26 capsules containing a brown powdery substance weighing approximately 18.26 grams.
Preliminary field tests indicated that the substance was heroin, prompting the immediate arrest of the foreign national.
The suspect is being held in police custody as detectives complete investigations before he is arraigned in court.
The recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits.
The DCI said it remains committed to combating drug trafficking and other transnational crimes through enhanced border surveillance and cooperation with partner agencies.
The Isebania border crossing, which links Kenya and Tanzania, has in recent years remained a key security checkpoint in efforts to curb the movement of illegal goods, including narcotics.
