MOMBASA, Kenya — A Tanzanian couple suspected of operating a syndicate targeting unsuspecting bus passengers by allegedly drugging them and stealing their valuables has been arrested in Mombasa.
The latest incident was reported on September 18, 2026, after a passenger travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa aboard a Dreamline bus allegedly lost consciousness during the journey.
According to detectives, the passenger had been seated next to a person who allegedly stupefied him before taking his belongings.
He later regained consciousness at Tudor Sub-County Hospital, where he discovered that his bag and other personal items were missing.
Detectives Trace Suspects To Magongo
Detectives from Makupa Police Station launched investigations and followed forensic leads that eventually took them to Magongo.
They arrested Pius Paskale Frugenze, 52, and his wife, Redempta Revelian Kuleta, 47, both Tanzanian nationals.
A search of their house allegedly led to the recovery of the complainant’s HP laptop and iPhone 17 Pro Max, providing investigators with a key breakthrough.
Police also recovered several mobile phones, 20 phone chargers, 10 wristwatches, 20 wallets and assorted clothing believed to be stolen.
Detectives further recovered substances suspected to be stupefying drugs.
The couple remains in custody as detectives complete processing ahead of their expected arraignment.
The recovered items have been preserved as exhibits as investigations continue.
