NAIROBI, Kenya – The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a nationwide recruitment and promotion exercise, declaring 54,016 teaching vacancies in one of its biggest staffing drives aimed at strengthening schools and supporting the rollout of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.
The vacancies include 34,016 promotion opportunities for serving teachers and 20,000 post-primary teaching positions for Junior Schools.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, July 28, the Commission invited qualified teachers and curriculum support officers to apply for promotion to various administrative and teaching grades through the Teachers Online portal.
The advertised promotion positions include Chief Principal, Senior Principal, Principal, Deputy Principal, Senior Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Senior Master, Senior Teacher and Senior Lecturer.
Applications for the promotion vacancies must be submitted online through the Teachers Online portal by midnight on August 10, 2026.
“Interested candidates should submit their applications online through the TSC portal to be received no later than Monday, August 10, 2026, midnight,” the Commission said.
Among the advertised positions, Senior Teacher II accounts for the largest number with 13,490 vacancies, followed by 5,956 Senior Master IV positions and 4,210 Senior Teacher I posts.
The Commission is also seeking to fill 3,075 Deputy Headteacher II, 1,865 Deputy Headteacher I, 1,665 Senior Master III, 1,068 Deputy Principal III, and 891 Deputy Principal II vacancies.
TSC said successful applicants will be deployed to schools with existing staffing gaps, adding that it is an equal opportunity employer and encouraged persons with disabilities to submit applications.
TSC Opens 20,000 Junior School Teacher Jobs
In a separate recruitment notice, the Commission also announced 20,000 permanent post-primary teacher positions for deployment to Junior Schools as part of efforts to bolster the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) programme.
Applications for the junior school vacancies will be accepted between August 18 and August 31, 2026 through the TSC website.
To qualify, applicants must be Kenyan citizens, possess at least a Diploma in Education, have obtained a minimum KCSE grade of C+, scored C+ or higher in two teaching subjects, and be registered with the Teachers Service Commission.
The Commission further stated that applicants must not have been previously employed by TSC and dismissed on disciplinary grounds. Recruitment, it said, will be conducted strictly on merit.
TSC also cautioned applicants against falling victim to fraudsters seeking to exploit job seekers during the recruitment process.
“The recruitment exercise is free of charge. TSC forewarns applicants against fraudsters who might extort money from unsuspecting persons purporting to assist in recruitment,” the Commission warned.
The latest recruitment and promotion exercise is expected to boost teacher staffing levels across the country while supporting the continued expansion of Junior Schools under the Competency-Based Education system.
