Wetang’ula Hails Ruto Housing Agenda as Running Mate Calls Grow

Date:

TAVETA, Kenya- National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has intensified his public engagements across the country, praising President William Ruto’s Affordable Housing Programme during a tour of the Taveta Affordable Housing Project, as political allies continue to push for him to be considered as Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 General Election.

In a statement issued after inspecting the project on Friday, Wetang’ula said he was impressed by the progress made under the government’s flagship housing initiative, describing it as proof that the administration’s development agenda is bearing fruit.

“This morning, I visited the Affordable Housing Programme in Taveta and was deeply encouraged by the remarkable progress achieved under the Government’s flagship housing initiative,” he said.

The Speaker said witnessing the project firsthand reaffirmed that the government’s promise of expanding homeownership for ordinary Kenyans is being realised.

“Seeing the project firsthand reaffirmed that the dream of homeownership is steadily becoming a reality for thousands of low and middle-income Kenyans. Beyond providing decent and affordable homes, the programme is restoring dignity, expanding economic opportunity and strengthening communities,” he stated.

Wetang’ula further argued that the Taveta project demonstrates that effective leadership should be judged by tangible outcomes rather than political rhetoric.

“The Taveta project is tangible evidence that transformative leadership is measured not by rhetoric, but by results. While public debate is an essential pillar of democracy, the true measure of any policy lies in its impact on the lives of the people,” he said.

He added that the programme showed President William Ruto’s Affordable Housing Agenda was delivering practical and lasting solutions for Kenyans.

“This programme demonstrates that President William Ruto’s Affordable Housing Agenda is delivering practical, lasting solutions that are expanding opportunity and advancing Kenya’s national development,” the Speaker added.

The visit comes as Wetang’ula has stepped up political mobilisation and development tours in different parts of the country, fuelling speculation about his role in President Ruto’s 2027 re-election campaign.

In recent months, leaders allied to the Speaker and the Ford Kenya party have openly endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the deputy president slot on President Ruto’s ticket in the next General Election.

The calls have grown louder as Kenya Kwanza leaders position themselves ahead of what is expected to be an intensely contested 2027 race.

However, the Speaker has increasingly used his public appearances to highlight the government’s development record, particularly flagship projects such as affordable housing, roads and electricity connectivity.
