NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto on Friday hosted grassroots leaders from Samburu County at State House, Nairobi, where discussions focused on development priorities and political cooperation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The delegation, drawn from different political parties including the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Jubilee Party and the Party of National Unity (PNU), was led by Samburu Governor Lati Lelelit.
In a statement shared after the meeting, President Ruto said the leaders had agreed to work together in advancing development initiatives in the county while fostering political unity as the country prepares for the next general election.
“We also discussed the measures we are taking in the transformation of Samburu and the entire country,” the President said.
Ruto highlighted the recently established National Infrastructure Fund as one of the government’s key financing mechanisms for accelerating development projects across the country.
According to the President, the fund will support the construction and rehabilitation of critical infrastructure, including roads, water storage facilities and energy generation projects aimed at improving livelihoods and stimulating economic growth.
The meeting comes at a time when political activity is intensifying across Kenya, with leaders from both the ruling coalition and opposition stepping up grassroots engagement more than a year before the official campaign period for the 2027 General Election.
Among those who attended the meeting were former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal, former Samburu Woman Representative Maison Leshomo and former Samburu North Member of Parliament Alois Lentoimaga, alongside serving and former Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly.
The engagement underscores the growing political significance of regional consultations as parties seek to consolidate support while simultaneously discussing development priorities with local leadership.
President Ruto has in recent months held similar meetings with leaders from various counties as his administration continues to promote its development agenda while strengthening political alliances ahead of the next electoral cycle.
