NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya’s Government has written to the American charity organization, Ford Foundation, over Sh752 million sent to 16 Kenyan organizations.
The money according to a letter by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Foundation’s President Darren Walker was disbursed between April 2023 and May 2024 as grants.
The Government specifically wants an explanation over an alleged unexplained expedited funding amounting to Sh194 million over the last four weeks.
Some of the organisations are John Allan Namu owned Africa Uncensored Limited, Women’s Link Wordwide, Centre for Resorce Mobilization and Development, Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative, Kenya Human Rights Commission, Open Institute Trust and Africa Centre for Open Governance.
Others include Transparency International, The Institute for Social Accountability, National Coalation for Human Rights Defenders, Shining Hope for Communities Inc, Coalation for Grassroots Human Rights Defenders Kenya, Community Aid International, Mzalendo Trust, Usikimye and Citizens Advancement Initiative.
“Their conduct also fundamentally flouts Ford Foundation’s Non-Lobbying Policy begging the question whether your Foundation has abandoned this policy and is now intent on adversely influencing the internal political and policy processes within the Republic of Kenya,” the letter by State Department for Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Dr. Korir Sing’Oei reads.
