BUNGOMA, Kenya – A trailer has reportedly caught fire at Nang’eni along the Kanduyi–Malaba Road, raising concerns over the safety of motorists using the busy route.
The cause of the fire, the extent of the damage and whether anyone has been injured remain unconfirmed.
The incident could disrupt traffic and reduce visibility, particularly if smoke spreads across the road as emergency responders work to contain the fire.
Motorists approaching the affected section have been advised to slow down, keep a safe distance from other vehicles and remain alert for smoke, traffic queues and emergency response vehicles.
Drivers have also been cautioned against overtaking near the scene, stopping on the carriageway to observe the incident or attempting to drive through dense smoke.
Road users should follow instructions from police and emergency personnel and use alternative routes if directed to do so.
Heavy commercial vehicle operators have been urged to remain alert to potential mechanical and electrical faults, overheating, tyre problems and fuel leaks, while ensuring their vehicles are regularly inspected and maintained.
In the event of a vehicle fire, occupants should move to a safe location away from the burning vehicle and passing traffic and alert emergency services. Members of the public have been warned against approaching the vehicle, particularly if it is carrying fuel or other hazardous cargo.
Motorists are also urged to keep the road clear to allow firefighters and other emergency responders to access the scene.
The cause of the fire and the current traffic situation had not been independently confirmed at the time of writing.
