Siaya County Bans ‘Disco Matanga’ and Parties Amid Festive Season Crackdown

Date:

SIAYA, Kenya – Siaya County has announced a continued ban on night vigils, popularly known as ‘Disco Matanga,’ and other non-essential parties during the 2024 festive season.

The ban, enforced by County Commissioner Norbert Komora, is part of efforts to curb criminal activities and protect vulnerable populations, particularly school-age children.

“Disco Matanga and other parties are affecting us. Chiefs should be keen this December; those found culpable should be arrested,” Komora stated, emphasizing the events often serve as hotspots for crime and immoral activities.

The County Commissioner directed security personnel to remain vigilant and take swift action against those defying the order.

He also urged parents and guardians to take greater responsibility for their children’s well-being during the holidays.

“Parents must not leave their responsibility to chiefs and the police alone,” he warned, calling on families to ensure their children stay on the right path during the season.

Komora also voiced concern over rising cases of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in the region, including femicide, urging Siaya residents to act as each other’s keepers.

He condemned the alarming trend, urging communities to foster safety and accountability during this period.
