Media personality Kamene Goro has revealed she narrowly survived a life-threatening health crisis earlier this year, detailing a deeply emotional and physically draining journey that saw her admitted to ICU, undergo major procedures, and battle multiple complications.

In a candid and heartfelt video shared with her followers, Kamene disclosed that she had been unwell since November last year, but only realized the severity of her condition in January, when her life hung in the balance.

“I almost died… I was literally like 12 hours in the window between life and death,” she said.

Kamene revealed that she was diagnosed with sepsis and peritonitis, severe conditions that led to a critical infection in her abdomen. Doctors had to perform emergency procedures, removing five litres of pus from her body.

The infection took a devastating toll on her system. Her kidneys began to fail, forcing her onto dialysis. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and later the High Dependency Unit (HDU). She developed pneumonia, and at one point, one of her lungs collapsed

“It’s wild,” she said, reflecting on the cascade of medical complications that followed.

Even after surviving the most critical phase, Kamene described her recovery as equally challenging both physically and mentally.

Her body, she said, was “ravaged,” leaving her with a long surgical scar and limited mobility that required her to learn how to walk again. Beyond the physical toll, she opened up about the emotional weight of recovery.

“Recovery has kicked my ass… it’s not just what happens to your body, it’s what happens to your mind,” she shared.

She recounted moments of deep vulnerability, including breaking down in tears on her birthday after realizing how drastically her year had changed from what she had envisioned.

Amid the pain and uncertainty, Kamene expressed profound gratitude to the healthcare workers who supported her through her ordeal.

“You never know who’s going to help you in your 11th hour,” she said, acknowledging the critical role played by her caregivers.

“Recovery is recovery… it’s hard, it’s lonely, and it sucks because no one really understands what you’re going through,” she said.

However, she emphasized the importance of not going through it alone, encouraging openness, vulnerability, and self-compassion.

“You’re allowed to have a bad day. You’re allowed to cry. If anything, you should.”

Kamene acknowledged that the experience has fundamentally changed her, but she is learning to embrace that transformation rather than resist it.

While she admitted that the journey ahead remains long and uncertain, Kamene expressed a determination to keep moving forward one day at a time.

“If you’ve clocked today, we did today… and we keep it moving,” she concluded
