  • The incident, captured on video, sparked public outrage online.

NAIROBI, Kenya- Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has suspended four students following a viral video showing a violent altercation inside a lecture hall.

The incident, which occurred on March 25, 2026, has raised fresh concerns about student safety and discipline within the institution.

Viral Video Shows Brutal Classroom Fight

In footage widely shared online, two students are seen attacking their peers during an afternoon lecture session as classmates watched in shock.

The victims appeared defenceless as the situation escalated into a full-blown fight inside the lecture hall.

A lecturer present at the scene was seen standing near the whiteboard, seemingly unable to intervene as the violence unfolded.

The incident triggered mixed reactions online, with many questioning the lack of immediate action to stop the fight.

University Suspends Students, Condemns Violence

Responding to the incident, Vice Chancellor Solomon Shibairo confirmed that the students involved were identified, arrested, and subjected to disciplinary action.

“We strongly condemn such acts of violence and hooliganism,” Shibairo said.

He noted that statements were recorded from all parties involved, including victims, perpetrators, the lecturer, and class representatives.

The university said the suspensions were issued in line with its Students’ Regulations Handbook.

Rising Concern Over Campus Violence

The incident is not isolated, with another disturbing case emerging involving a student allegedly attacked by a group armed with machetes and sticks near the Vice Chancellor’s office.

The attack reportedly occurred during the student election period but was not widely publicised at the time.

The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns about a possible rise in student-related violence at MMUST.

The university has urged students to remain calm and uphold discipline, warning that strict action will be taken against those who violate regulations.

With scrutiny mounting, attention is now on whether further measures will be introduced to improve safety and prevent similar incidents on campus.
