NAIROBI, Kenya — Celebrated broadcaster Ann Njogu has announced her departure from the popular mid-morning show dubbed ‘Staarabika’ on Radio Maisha, bringing to an end a long-running chapter in her media career.
In an emotional farewell message shared with listeners, Njogu thanked fans who consistently tuned in to the programme and actively participated through messages, requests, and personal stories.
“You have been riding with me on Radio Maisha and Staarabika for a while now,” she said.
“Every midmorning, you tuned in, sent in your shouts, your stories, your heartbreaks, your requests, and defended Staarabika like it was yours. That’s what kept me showing up.”
End of a major chapter
Njogu described her departure as the close of an important phase in her broadcasting journey.
However, she assured her audience that she would remain connected with them as she transitions into a new stage of her career.
“As I embark on a new chapter in my career, this is my farewell from the show,” she said.
“Not goodbye to the memories, and not goodbye to you. Just the end of this chapter on the air on the radio.”
Her exit marks a significant shift for one of Kenya’s most recognisable Swahili-language radio personalities.
Over the years, Njogu built a strong following through Staarabika, a programme that blended motivation, relationships, lifestyle discussions, and audience interaction.
Journey into media
Born in Thika and raised in Nakuru, Njogu developed an interest in media while still in school.
She later pursued a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Public Relations at Moi University while balancing work and family responsibilities.
Before joining mainstream media, she ventured into business. She previously revealed that she operated a cosmetics shop and also worked as a taxi driver before fully entering journalism.
Njogu has credited her early exposure to broadcasting during a school tour at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation for inspiring her media ambitions.
She also said teachers encouraged her to pursue broadcasting because of her strength in Kiswahili communication.

Expanding influence
At Radio Maisha, Njogu rose through the ranks beyond presenting.
In addition to hosting Staarabika, she contributed to business-focused programming such as Maisha Biashara. She later became Programs Controller, overseeing content and scheduling at the station.
Her media career also extended to television through ‘Biashara Viwandani’ on KTN.
Beyond traditional broadcasting, Njogu has maintained an active digital presence across social media platforms, where she regularly engages audiences on lifestyle, entrepreneurship, and personal development topics.
While she did not disclose her next destination, her departure from Radio Maisha is likely to spark speculation about her next move within Kenya’s competitive media industry.
