Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa Mourns Death of Younger Brother

Date:

KAKAMEGA, Kenya — Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has been thrown into mourning following the death of his younger brother, Silas Barasa, after a short illness.

The governor announced the loss on Sunday through a statement, describing his brother as a humble, hardworking, and generous individual who touched the lives of many people.

“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of my younger brother, Silas Barasa, following a short illness,” Barasa said.

He eulogised the late Silas as a kind-hearted man whose willingness to assist others earned him admiration from family members, friends and the wider community.

“Silas was a humble, kind-hearted, and hardworking man whose generosity and willingness to help endeared him to many. His passing is a profound loss to our family, relatives, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him,” the governor stated.

The county boss said the family is still coming to terms with the loss and that details regarding funeral and burial arrangements will be communicated later.

“Further details regarding funeral and burial arrangements will be communicated in due course. May Silas’ soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.

Governor Barasa also appealed for prayers and privacy for the family during the difficult period.

The death comes at a challenging personal moment for the governor, only weeks after he celebrated a major academic achievement by graduating with a PhD from Kenyatta University.

Leaders, friends and residents from Kakamega County have since sent messages of condolence to the governor and his family following the announcement.

The tragedy adds to a series of bereavements that have recently affected prominent political figures. Former Tinderet MP Henry Kosgey is also mourning the loss of his wife, who died on June 13.

Among those who condoled with the family was President William Ruto, who described her as a compassionate and generous woman whose impact was felt by many.

On the same day, former Kilgoris MP Gideon Konchellah died after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

The deaths have left Kenya’s political class mourning several losses within a short period, as tributes continue to pour in from leaders across the country.
