British-Jamaican rapper Stefflon Don has mourned Zimbabwean businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo, describing his death as a deeply painful loss and remembering him as a close friend who made people feel valued.
Stefflon Don shared the emotional tribute on social media after Chivayo died in a helicopter crash in Zimbabwe on September 30, alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, and three other people.
Addressing Chivayo directly, the rapper opened her message by calling him her “dear friend” and admitting that his death had affected her deeply.
“My dear friend Wicknell… this one hurts deeply,” she said.
Stefflon Don then sent her condolences to Lucy’s family and remembered Chivayo for what she described as his warmth, generosity and ability to make people around him feel included.
“You were genuinely one of the kindest and most generous people I knew,” she wrote.
The rapper said Chivayo had a big heart and regularly made an effort to ensure people around him felt welcome and appreciated. She also singled out his concern for people who might otherwise feel excluded.
“You never wanted anyone to feel left out,” Stefflon Don wrote, adding that the quality revealed much about his character.
She also reflected on Chivayo’s relationship with his children, recalling how proudly he spoke about them and how clearly he expressed his love for his family.
“I will always remember how much you loved your children,” she wrote.
Stefflon Don said her heart was breaking for the family following his sudden death before concluding the tribute with a message that his memory would endure.
“You will never be forgotten, Wicknell,” she wrote. “Your kindness, your generosity and the love you gave to people will live on.”
The tribute has attracted attention because Stefflon Don and Chivayo had been seen together shortly before his death.
Photographs and videos of the pair circulated on social media and prompted speculation about the nature of their relationship.
Reports linked them romantically, although neither Stefflon Don nor Chivayo publicly confirmed that they were dating
Chivayo had also publicly expressed admiration for Stefflon Don and shared content featuring the rapper before his death.
Their public interactions consequently attracted considerable interest online.
