Kenyan entrepreneur and influencer Joseph Kairu Wambui, popularly known as Khalif Kairo, has officially qualified as a licensed commercial pilot after completing his aviation training journey and passing his final practical flight examination.
The businessman shared the exciting news with fans on May 29, 2026, announcing that he had successfully attained all required flight hours and cleared his final flight test.
“Officially a commercial pilot after attaining the required hours, milestones and passing my final practical exam,” Kairo shared.
The achievement marks a major milestone for the popular car dealer and entrepreneur, who has spent the last several years steadily building a parallel career in aviation while continuing to expand his automotive business empire.
Kairo’s journey into aviation began long before his latest qualification. In 2022, he earned his Private Pilot License (PPL) from Flitestar Academy, laying the foundation for what would become a determined pursuit of a Commercial Pilot License (CPL).
Unlike many public figures who quietly pursue professional certifications, Kairo often documented parts of his aviation journey online, giving followers a glimpse into both the successes and setbacks he encountered along the way.
At one point during his ground school training, Kairo openly admitted that he had failed some examination units required by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA). He later retook the exams and eventually passed all mandatory aviation knowledge tests in September 2024.
The entrepreneur’s aviation ambitions gained even more traction in November 2025 after the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officially verified his pilot credentials through the KCAA. The verification effectively cleared him to operate U.S.-registered aircraft globally, further expanding his opportunities within international aviation.
Kairo later focused on completing the remaining flight hour requirements necessary for a commercial license before finally sitting for the all-important practical flight examination.
By successfully passing the final checkride, he officially joined the ranks of licensed commercial pilots.
The new qualification now positions Kairo to deepen his growing involvement in the aviation industry, an area he has increasingly invested in over the past few years.
While many Kenyans primarily know him for his influence in the automotive trade through luxury car imports and sales, Kairo has gradually diversified his interests beyond the car business.
He recently launched Jetman Global, an aviation-focused venture specializing in private aircraft sourcing, management, and leasing services. The company reflects his larger vision of building a stronger footprint within East Africa’s private aviation space.
To support the venture, Kairo also acquired a light aircraft reportedly valued at approximately Sh 50 million, which he has used for private travel, business operations, and group travel initiatives.
The entrepreneur has frequently spoken about his fascination with aviation and his desire to create more accessibility and awareness around flying among young Africans.
Commercial pilot training is widely regarded as one of the most rigorous professional certification paths, requiring extensive theoretical knowledge, practical flight experience, and strict regulatory examinations.
To qualify for a CPL in Kenya, pilots must complete mandatory flight hours, pass multiple written examinations approved by the KCAA, undergo medical certification, and successfully clear a practical flight test with a certified examiner.
