Mudavadi Heads to Seoul for Korea-Africa Ministerial Meeting

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has left for Seoul, South Korea, to attend the Korea–Africa Foreign Ministers Meeting scheduled for June 1 and 2.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, the meeting will bring together African and South Korean leaders to strengthen cooperation on trade, diplomacy, and shared economic development priorities.

The government said the Korea–Africa Ministerial framework serves as an important platform for consultations on areas of mutual interest aimed at deepening partnerships between African states and the Republic of Korea.

Mudavadi said the forum comes at a critical time when countries in the Global South are reassessing economic and diplomatic strategies amid shifting global dynamics.

“The meeting allows the Global South to prepare for the world beyond the current order strategically. This is an opportune moment for us to rethink and recalibrate our trade pathways,” Mudavadi said.

He added that the Korea–Africa Ministerial framework reaffirmed joint commitments through concrete programmes and development projects aimed at shared prosperity.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Mudavadi is expected to hold bilateral talks with the South Korean government as Kenya seeks to expand cooperation in people-centred development initiatives founded on mutual benefit.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary also pointed to South Korea’s economic transformation as an example that African countries can learn from.

“It is noteworthy that at independence, Kenya, like some African states, had a relatively comparable economic size and performance with the Republic of Korea. This demonstrates the vast possibilities for Kenya and the broader Global South to achieve economic transformation,” he said.

During his visit, Mudavadi is also scheduled to deliver a public lecture at Sungkyunkwan University focusing on Kenya’s diplomacy and its relations with South Korea within the broader framework of Global South cooperation.
