NAIROBI, Kenya — A heated social media exchange between amateur boxers Mbavu Destroyer and Majembe has drawn attention online after the pair clashed during a TikTok Live session over claims about a high-end smartphone.
The confrontation unfolded on Saturday, April 25, when Majembe went live and repeatedly showcased what he claimed was an “iPhone 17,” urging viewers to take note as he flaunted the device.
“You are still far from reaching this level… You see the phone I am using? iPhone 17,” Majembe said during the livestream, holding the device close to the camera and insisting viewers verify it.
He doubled down on the claim, recording additional footage mid-stream to emphasize that the phone he was using was the latest model, and challenged his rival to acknowledge it.
But Mbavu Destroyer responded sharply, dismissing the claims and accusing Majembe of showboating after receiving money from a recent fight. In a series of remarks, Mbavu questioned the authenticity of the device and criticised his rival’s priorities.
“You got a little money after the fight and rushed to buy a phone… It is important to be wise and sharp,” Mbavu said, suggesting Majembe may have only been displaying a phone cover rather than the actual device.
The exchange quickly escalated into personal attacks, with Mbavu mocking Majembe and even offering to help him purchase what he termed a “real phone.”
“That cover you are showing off, I will even add you some money so you can buy a real phone. I will come and buy you a phone,” he added.
The spat has since circulated widely across social media, reflecting how online platforms are increasingly becoming arenas for athletes and entertainers to extend rivalries beyond their primary professions.
