NAIROBI, Kenya- Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has warned former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua that security agencies will closely monitor his political activities until the 2027 General Election, amid escalating tensions over the Ol Kalou by-election.
Speaking during a public engagement, Murkomen accused Gachagua of attempting to incite political violence and said the government would not allow any leader to destabilise the country under the guise of political mobilisation.
“We will monitor your activities every minute until the 2027 elections,” Murkomen said, warning that security agencies would take action against anyone found breaking the law.
The Interior CS’s remarks come days after Gachagua alleged that security officers and state-backed groups had been deployed to disrupt Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) campaigns in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, ahead of the July 16 parliamentary by-election.
Murkomen dismissed those claims, insisting that the National Police Service remains impartial and is only focused on maintaining law and order. He also cautioned Gachagua against making statements that could inflame political tensions or encourage violence.
“Rigathi Gachagua, my business now until Kenya crosses 2027 safely is to monitor your activities in the Republic of Kenya. Hiyo kazi nitafanya usiku na mchana, you’re my single most point of focus because of the threat you’re posing as the father of violence,” Murkomen stated.
The exchange marks the latest escalation in the political rivalry between the government and Gachagua, who has intensified opposition activities through nationwide consultations at his Wamunyoro residence while campaigning for the DCP candidate in the Ol Kalou by-election.
Murkomen has repeatedly maintained that the government will not tolerate political violence and that security agencies will act against any individual found sponsoring or inciting unrest, regardless of their political affiliation.
