Drunk Subaru Driver Hospitalised After Alleged Hit-and-Run Sparks Chase in Roysambu

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — A Subaru driver was reportedly hospitalised after an alleged hit-and-run incident in Roysambu escalated into a high-speed chase and mob attack involving boda boda riders.

According to eyewitness accounts circulating on social media, the incident began when the driver of a Subaru Impreza allegedly collided with a matatu in the Roysambu area.

Witnesses claimed the driver attempted to flee the scene to avoid responsibility. Moments later, the vehicle allegedly struck a motorcycle carrying a rider and a pillion passenger.

The second collision prompted a group of boda boda riders to pursue the vehicle through nearby roads.

Passenger reportedly jumped from moving car

During the chase, a passenger travelling in the Subaru allegedly jumped from the moving vehicle after realising the situation had escalated.

Witnesses claimed the passenger sustained minor injuries and was treated for bruises.

The fleeing driver was eventually caught by the pursuing riders, who reportedly assaulted him and vandalised the vehicle.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers damaged the car and allegedly made away with the vehicle’s music system and other accessories.

The driver was later taken to hospital, where he is reportedly receiving treatment.

Official confirmation awaited

Police had not issued an official statement on the incident by the time of publication. The identities and medical conditions of the motorcyclist and pillion passenger could not be independently verified.

The claims that the driver was intoxicated and that he attempted to flee the initial crash have also not been confirmed by law enforcement.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collisions and the subsequent assault.

Rising concern over mob justice

The incident has renewed concerns over the growing prevalence of mob justice following road traffic accidents.
