Suspected KDF Impostor Charged in Court Over Fake Recruitment Letters

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — A man accused of impersonating a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) brigadier and issuing fake recruitment letters has been arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts.

The suspect, Joshua Maingi Muimi, was arrested in Kilimani after detectives linked him to a scheme in which he allegedly posed as a senior military officer and issued fraudulent calling letters from the Ministry of Defence to unsuspecting Kenyans.

According to investigators, Muimi had been operating within Kilimani, targeting young people seeking recruitment into the military.

He was presented before the Milimani courts on Tuesday, where police sought more time to complete their investigations. The court ordered that he be detained at Kilimani Police Station pending further inquiries.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has cautioned the public against falling prey to fraudulent recruitment schemes, stressing that genuine KDF recruitment is free, transparent, and does not involve intermediaries.
