Veteran Gynaecologist Job Obwaka Dies at 83

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Veteran gynaecologist and Nairobi Hospital director Dr Job Obwaka has died.

He passed away on May 1, 2026, aged 83 at a Nairobi hospital, his family confirmed.

His death comes just weeks after his dramatic arrest in March 2026.

Job Obwaka was arrested alongside three other directors following a series of allegations related to the management of the hospital.

The charges brought against him included conflict of interest, the unlawful receipt of benefits, and the falsification of the hospital’s members’ register.

He was further accused of failing to file the institution’s financial statements for the years 2022 through 2024.

His arrest was however viewed as a coercive tactic linked to an intense power struggle for control over the hospital’s governance and its prime land.

During his arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts, the situation took a physical toll on him as he fell ill in court and had to be evacuated by ambulance for emergency medical care.

He was later released on a Sh 5 million personal bond.
