NAIROBI, Kenya – Former nominated senator Millicent Omanga has reacted with surprise after the government revoked her appointment as a board member of Kenya Shipyards Limited, claiming she was unaware she was still serving in the role.
A gazette notice dated April 30, 2026, issued by Defence Cabinet Secretary Roselinda Soipan Tuya, announced the revocation of Omanga’s appointment to the state corporation’s board with immediate effect.
According to Gazette Notice No. 6391, the decision was made under the provisions of the State Corporations Act (Kenya).
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section (6) (1) (e) of the State Corporations Act, as read with section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Defence revokes the appointment of Millicent Nyaboke Omanga as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Shipyards Limited, with effect from the 30th April, 2026,” part of the notice read.
However, Omanga appeared puzzled by the development, taking to social media shortly after the announcement to express her surprise.
“Apparently I’ve just been officially removed from a board I didn’t even know I was still serving on,” she wrote.
The outspoken politician also questioned the circumstances surrounding the decision, adding: “Impressive level of coordination… decisions being made about roles that only exist on paper lol.”
Omanga did not provide further details about her tenure on the board or when she last actively served in the role.
The revocation notice referenced her earlier appointment under G.N. 401/2025.
Meanwhile the government has not issued additional clarification regarding the circumstances leading to her removal.
