2Mbili Reveals Rare Sleep Condition That Shaped His Career

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan content creator 2Mbili has revealed that he lives with a rare sleep pattern that has significantly influenced his lifestyle, education, and career path.

Speaking in an interview with Jacquey Nyaminde, popularly known as Wilbroda, on Milele FM, the entertainer said he has struggled with irregular sleep since childhood, often going long hours without rest.

“I was born with a condition, I rarely sleep,” he said, explaining that the pattern began during his primary school years and persisted through high school and into adulthood.

According to 2Mbili, the condition enabled him to sustain an intense routine during his university years, balancing nightlife work with academic commitments.

He said he would perform at clubs late into the night, rest briefly in the early morning, and still attend classes by 8 a.m. without missing lectures.

He described the schedule as demanding but manageable due to his unique sleep cycle, which allowed him to function on minimal rest while others followed more conventional routines.

“I have never slept like normal people… sleep just gets me when it wants,” he added, noting that his rest is irregular and unpredictable, often occurring only when exhaustion becomes overwhelming.

The content creator said the condition has not only shaped his productivity but also influenced his ability to adapt to unconventional working hours, particularly in the entertainment industry, where late nights are common.

However, he acknowledged the risks associated with the condition, especially when fatigue sets in unexpectedly. He recounted a past incident in which he briefly fell asleep while driving, leading to a road crash.

His revelation has sparked online conversations about sleep health, with some users expressing concern about the long-term effects of irregular sleep, while others point to the demands of the creative industries that often blur the boundaries between work and recovery.
