Rubis Energy Appoints Olivier Sabrié as New CEO for East Africa

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Rubis Energy has announced the appointment of Olivier Sabrié as the new CEO for East Africa and Group Managing Director of Rubis Energy Kenya, marking a significant leadership transition in the region.

Sabrié succeeds Jean-Christian Bergeron, who has led the company since 2019 and will now return to Paris for a new assignment.

Under Bergeron’s stewardship, Rubis Energy established itself as a formidable force in East Africa’s energy sector, making strategic acquisitions such as KenolKobil Plc and Gulf Energy Holdings Ltd.

His tenure saw Rubis become one of the top three oil marketing companies in Kenya, thanks to a series of bold initiatives including the rebranding of fuel stations across the region and the introduction of the Ultratech fuel technology, Rubis gas, and the Rubis App.

Bergeron also spearheaded the company’s partnership with Castrol, enabling Rubis to exclusively distribute Castrol lubricants across its network.

“I am grateful for the support from our dedicated team, our loyal customers, and our partners,” said Bergeron in a statement. “Together, we have created a foundation for continued success, and I am confident that Olivier will elevate Rubis Energy in East Africa to great heights.”

Olivier Sabrié, who brings over three decades of experience in the oil marketing sector, joins Rubis after a distinguished career with Total Energies.

His roles have spanned multiple continents, including leadership positions in Mozambique, France, Pakistan, India, and most recently, as Chairman and Managing Director, and Vice President for South Asia at Total Energies Marketing India Private Ltd.

“I look forward to building on Mr. Bergeron’s legacy and driving Rubis Energy Kenya’s mission to further enhance the journeys our customers take every day,” Sabrié stated, emphasizing the dynamic nature of Kenya and East Africa’s markets, which he believes hold immense potential for growth and development.

Rubis Energy Kenya currently operates nearly 300 fuel stations nationwide, holding a market share of 14.05% as of December.

This puts it in close competition with industry giants TotalEnergies, which holds a 14.88% share, and Vivo, leading with 22.07%.
