Egyptian Healthcare Firm Alameda Enters Kenya With Clinic Expansion Plan

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Egyptian healthcare group Alameda has entered the Kenyan market with plans to expand from a clinic into a full-service hospital, marking the latest cross-border investment in the country’s private health sector.

The firm said it will initially operate a clinic before upgrading it into a polyclinic by adding radiology and laboratory services, with a fully-fledged hospital planned within two years.

“We plan to grow from a clinic into a polyclinic… and eventually into a fully-fledged hospital,” a company official said.

The entry positions Alameda among a growing list of Egyptian investors expanding into Kenya across healthcare and financial services.

The development follows increased capital inflows into regional medical infrastructure as demand for specialised care rises.

Alameda’s expansion comes shortly after Egypt-based telemedicine platform Vezeeta raised $40 million (about Sh5.2 billion) in a Series D funding round and rolled out digital health services in Kenya, including online consultations and remote patient management tools.

Egyptian investment in Kenya has also extended beyond healthcare. Commercial International Bank previously acquired a majority stake in Mayfair Bank Kenya before completing a full buyout and rebranding the lender as CIB Kenya in 2023, highlighting broader economic ties between the two countries.

Alameda’s move reflects growing investor interest in Kenya’s private healthcare market, which continues to attract regional hospital chains seeking to tap rising demand for specialised diagnostics, outpatient services and medical tourism.

Industry analysts say the phased model, clinic to polyclinic to hospital, allows investors to test demand while scaling capital expenditure gradually, particularly in urban centres with growing middle-income populations.

The planned expansion is expected to deepen competition among private healthcare providers and potentially improve access to advanced diagnostic services as regional players increasingly target Kenya as a healthcare hub.
