TAITA TAVETA, Kenya- President William Ruto has launched the construction of a 385-unit Affordable Housing Project and a modern market in Wundanyi town.
President Ruto laid the foundation stones for the two projects on Saturday, September 26, during his visit to Taita Taveta County.
He said the investments were intended to create economic opportunities, generate employment and improve residents’ livelihoods.
“In Wundanyi town, we launched the construction of a modern market and a 385-unit Affordable Housing Project, investments that will create opportunities and improve livelihoods of the residents,” President Ruto said.
State House separately shared footage showing the President presiding over the groundbreaking ceremonies for the housing development and market.
New homes for Wundanyi residents
The housing development will add 385 residential units to Wundanyi under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme.
The administration says the programme is designed to expand access to housing while creating jobs for construction workers, artisans and suppliers.
President Ruto has positioned housing construction as a central part of his economic programme, linking the projects to employment creation and the redevelopment of urban centres.
Modern market targets local traders
The proposed modern market is expected to provide traders with organised commercial space and improve conditions for conducting business in Wundanyi.
The government did not immediately disclose the projects’ total cost, completion timelines, contractors or the number of market stalls in the public announcement.
The two projects form part of the national government’s infrastructure investments in Taita Taveta County.
President Ruto also inspected the Taveta Affordable Housing Project during his visit to the county.
