Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah has officially bid farewell to Liverpool F.C., bringing an emotional end to one of the greatest careers in the club’s modern history.
The Egyptian superstar made his final appearance for Liverpool during Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Brentford at Anfield, closing the curtain on a remarkable nine-year journey that transformed him into a global football icon.
Although Salah did not score in his final match, he produced an assist for Curtis Jones, setting yet another club record by surpassing Steven Gerrard’s tally for most Premier League assists for Liverpool.
The emotional farewell saw Anfield erupt into chants as Salah was substituted late in the match, with the forward visibly struggling to hold back tears while receiving a standing ovation from supporters.
Salah later remained on the pitch after the final whistle, soaking in the atmosphere as fans paid tribute to a player widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s all-time greats.
Since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has enjoyed a glittering spell at Anfield, winning the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
He leaves Liverpool having scored more than 250 goals for the club and established himself among the greatest forwards in Premier League history.
Salah also cemented his legacy in English football by winning four Premier League Golden Boots, equalling Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s all-time record.
Beyond his goals, Salah became admired globally for his professionalism, discipline and influence off the pitch, particularly as one of the most successful African and Arab footballers in history.
His departure comes amid reports of tension within Liverpool following a difficult campaign under manager Arne Slot, with Salah previously hinting at frustrations regarding the club’s direction.
Liverpool supporters across the world, including in Kenya, flooded social media with tributes celebrating the forward’s unforgettable legacy at the club.
While Salah’s next destination remains officially unconfirmed, reports continue to link him with moves to Saudi Arabia, Major League Soccer and other European clubs.
