HOMA BAY, Kenya- Kassim Abdi Sebo, popularly known as Abdi, has emerged at the centre of investigations into the deadly violence that disrupted the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay on Sunday.
Sebo is said to be the leader of a group known as the Hammer Boys, according to reports emerging after the violence.
Police have since ordered him to surrender to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at the Homa Bay County headquarters to assist with investigations into the unrest.
The latest development has brought renewed attention to the identity and alleged activities of the group amid heightened scrutiny over organised political violence in Homa Bay.
Reports identify Sebo as the leader of the Hammer Boys, a group that has featured in claims surrounding political mobilisation and violence in the Homa Bay area.
The allegations have gained prominence following Sunday’s clashes, which left people dead and scores injured, while vehicles were damaged and journalists attacked during their coverage of the rally.
Alleged political links under scrutiny
Sebo has also been reported to have links with senior political and government figures.
The National Police Service has ordered Sebo to report to the Homa Bay County DCI headquarters, alongside Oliver Jaoko, alias Olivetti, who was directed to surrender to the Regional DCI Headquarters in Kisumu.
The move is part of a wider investigation into the violence that erupted during the Linda Mwananchi political rally.
