GITHUNGURI, Kiambu County —Jubilee Deputy Party Leader and Presidential Aspirant Fred Matiang’i has stepped up his political push ahead of the 2027 General Election, asking residents of Kiambu to “open” their doors and hearts to him as he seeks another opportunity to serve in national leadership.
Matiang’i made the appeal on Sunday, September 6, 2026, while attending a church service at The Glory of God St John’s Church in Kanjai, Githunguri.
Drawing from the day’s sermon on perseverance, the former Cabinet Secretary told residents that he was the person knocking on their doors and asked them to give him an opportunity to return to public service.
“I am at the door; I continue knocking at your doors. That knock you hear loudly is mine. I am knocking. Please open for me your hearts and open your homes for me,” Matiang’i said.
He was accompanied by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni and Nge’nda Ward MCA Joe Kigara. He was received at the church by Area Dean Reverend Livingstone Kiarie.
Matiang’i turns sermon into political appeal
Matiang’i said the sermon had strengthened his resolve to continue pursuing his political ambitions.
He said he had not known the subject of the preacher’s message before attending the service but found the emphasis on perseverance particularly relevant to his political journey.
“I should not give up and I promise you I will not give up. You told me I should continue knocking,” he said.
He subsequently linked the biblical message directly to his appeal for political support.
“If you hear your door being knocked, it is Fred Matiang’i knocking. He wants to come,” he said.
The remarks underline Matiang’i’s continuing efforts to reconnect with voters and establish himself as a potential national political contender ahead of the 2027 election.
Matiang’i pushes 2027 presidential ambitions
Matiang’i has previously declared his interest in the presidency and has been associated with efforts to strengthen the Jubilee Party ahead of the 2027 elections.
His latest appearance in Kiambu comes as political parties and individual aspirants intensify grassroots mobilisation across the country.
For Matiang’i, the strategy includes reminding voters of his previous experience in government while presenting himself as a leader capable of restoring order and improving public services.
His message in Githunguri combined that record of public service with a direct request for residents to give him another opportunity.
Former CS highlights record in government
During the service, Matiang’i reflected on his years in government, including his time at the Ministry of Education and his later role in the security sector under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He credited both God and Kenyatta for giving him the opportunity to serve the country.
“We did the work at the Ministry of Education, in security and other areas in cooperation with our brother and leader, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta,” Matiang’i said.
Matiang’i served in several senior government positions during Kenyatta’s administration, including as Cabinet Secretary for Education and later Interior Cabinet Secretary.
His government record is expected to form an important part of his political pitch as he seeks to rebuild a national profile ahead of the next presidential contest.
Matiang’i promises to tackle education challenges
Matiang’i also criticised what he described as challenges affecting the education and security sectors.
He said parents, teachers and students were facing difficulties and argued that the education system needed greater organisation and predictability.
The former Education Cabinet Secretary said he would seek to improve the sector if given another opportunity to serve.
“We want to make sure that education is put in order, the way it was put in order at that time,” he said.
Matiang’i said his experience in government had demonstrated the importance of well-organised systems and clear procedures.
He said he wanted Kenyan children, teachers and parents to have greater confidence in an education system that is predictable and dependable.
Security also central to political pitch
The former Interior CS also referred to concerns over the security sector, signalling that security and public order would remain part of his political message.
Matiang’i’s tenure at the Interior Ministry made security one of the defining areas of his public profile.
His latest comments suggest he intends to draw on that experience as he makes his case for another opportunity to serve in national leadership.
He said his broader objective was to improve the lives of Kenyans while helping restore peace and order.
