Crystal Asige Declares Nairobi Senate Bid Ahead of 2027 Elections

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Nominated Senator Crystal Asige has declared her intention to contest the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, citing her parliamentary record and advocacy for persons with disabilities as she seeks an elected mandate.

Asige announced her bid on Sunday, October 18, 2026, during a church service at Jesus Teaching Ministry (JTM) Church in Donholm, Embakasi East, where she joined leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement during a Nairobi tour.

Addressing the congregation, Asige asked Nairobi residents to give her an opportunity to continue serving and protecting Kenyans, arguing that her work in Parliament demonstrated her commitment to public service.

“Kama ni track record Sifuna tafadhali waambie kule Senate rekodi yangu iko vipi, Babu waambie mimi ni nani tafadhali,” she said. The remarks translate to an appeal to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and another leader, Babu, to explain her record to colleagues in the Senate.

Asige also appealed directly to voters, saying: “Kwa hivyo tafadhali, nawaomba nafasi kuendelea na hii kazi kuwahudumia na kuwalinda wananchi mkinipa kura zenu, imagine how much more I will do for you hapa Embakasi kama senator wako wa Nairobi.”

In the same announcement, she declared: “Asige anasija kama seneta wa Nairobi 2027,” a statement translated as her declaration that she was coming as Nairobi senator in 2027.

The nominated senator said her parliamentary work had focused on protecting vulnerable groups, including young people in business and learners in special-needs schools.

“I have the responsibility to protect our young people who are in business and those in special needs schools in the country. All of these I have done as a fresh leader in Parliament, even as a nominated senator, and that is my track record,” Asige said.

She challenged Nairobi residents to assess her work before deciding whether to support her candidacy. She also referred to Sifuna as someone who could speak about her performance and progress in Parliament.

“Tell them my work. I ask you to grant me permission to continue serving you and protecting Kenyans,” she said.

“If you vote for me, imagine how much more I will do for you here in Embakasi and the wider Nairobi County as a senator. Asige is coming as the Nairobi senator in 2027,” she added.

Asige currently serves in the Senate through nomination to represent special-interest groups, including persons with disabilities, women and young people.

Asige has built her parliamentary profile around disability inclusion and legal reforms intended to address barriers affecting persons with disabilities.

Asige’s announcement adds to the list of politicians seeking the Nairobi senatorial seat currently held by Sifuna.

East African Legislative Assembly member Winnie Odinga declared her intention to contest the seat on October 15, 2026, during the first anniversary commemoration of her father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in Bondo, Siaya County.

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, had also expressed interest in the seat earlier in 2026.

Other public figures have been mentioned in reports about the developing race, including musician KRG The Don, former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo, lawyer Cecil Miller and media personality Jaymo Ule Msee.
