NAIROBI, Kenya-Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday held talks with businessman Jimi Wanjigi at his Wamunyoro residence, the latest in a series of consultations aimed at building a united opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement after the meeting, Gachagua said the discussions focused on what he described as the country’s “liberation cause” and the formation of the “Sixth Administration.”
“Pleased to have held consultations with businessman Jimi Wanjigi who called on me at the Wamunyoro residence,” Gachagua said.
“The liberation cause of our country and the formation of the Sixth Administration is so critical that we must get views from all.”
He added that Wanjigi’s experience had enriched the discussions.
“I have greatly benefited from his insights and experience in formation of governments,” Gachagua said, adding that consultations would continue.
The meeting is politically significant, particularly in the Mt Kenya region, where Gachagua has positioned himself as a key opposition figure following his fallout with President William Ruto’s administration.
Wanjigi, a prominent businessman and long-time player in Kenya’s opposition politics, has previously been involved in coalition-building efforts and has remained an influential voice on governance and economic issues.

The meeting comes as Gachagua intensifies consultations at his Wamunyoro home with political leaders, opinion shapers and stakeholders from across the country.
The engagements follow his recent tours of Western Kenya and the Coast region, where he has been rallying support for a broad opposition alliance ahead of the next General Election.
While neither Gachagua nor Wanjigi disclosed whether they discussed specific political alliances or electoral arrangements, the latest engagement is expected to fuel speculation over Wanjigi’s possible role in the emerging opposition coalition.
The Wamunyoro consultations have increasingly become a focal point of opposition strategy, with Gachagua maintaining that the meetings are intended to gather views from different sectors of society as leaders work towards a common political agenda.
