Gachagua, Linturi Rally Meru Residents Ahead of 2027 Polls

Date:

MERU, Kenya- Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua continued his tour of Meru County on Monday, rallying residents behind his call for Mt Kenya unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.

On the second day of the tour, Gachagua was joined by former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary and DCP gubernatorial aspirant Mithika Linturi in Athiru Gaiti Ward, Igembe South, where they met residents and outlined the party’s agenda for the region.

The tour follows Sunday’s church service and political engagements in Meru, where Gachagua intensified his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration and urged the Mt Kenya region to unite politically ahead of the next polls.

Addressing supporters, Linturi said the DCP leadership had listened to the concerns raised by residents and promised that their demands for better leadership would be addressed.

“We had the privilege of engaging with the people of Athiru Gaiti Ward in Igembe South with my party leader Rigathi Gachagua and other DCP leaders. During our discussions, I listened carefully to their concerns and assured them that their call for better leadership will not go unheeded,” Linturi said.

The former Cabinet Secretary identified access to clean and reliable water, improved markets for agricultural produce and better returns for miraa farmers as key priorities should the party form the next county government.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to tackling the pressing challenges facing the community. Priority areas include improving access to clean and reliable water, developing stronger markets for agricultural produce, and securing better and more sustainable opportunities for miraa farmers,” he said.

Linturi added that the party was committed to working with residents to improve livelihoods across the region.

“Together, we will continue working to deliver meaningful progress for the people of this region,” he said.

Gachagua’s visit to Meru is part of a broader campaign to consolidate support across the Mt Kenya region following the launch of the Democracy for the Citizens Party.

In recent weeks, the former Deputy President has toured several counties, urging residents to unite behind a common political agenda as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

The Meru tour is expected to culminate in a series of political meetings with local leaders and residents as DCP seeks to strengthen its grassroots presence in one of the region’s key voting blocs.
