NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando wa Kabando has said President William Ruto’s defeat in the 2027 general elections is “inevitable,” urging opposition leaders to unite behind a fresh, youth-driven political movement.
In a detailed public statement, Kabando said the most pressing question now is not whether Ruto will lose the presidency, but who will lead the opposition and how it will integrate what he described as the “leadership integrity revolt” led by Kenya’s Gen Z.
“There are enough of us inside this train who are sufficiently dedicated to the course of inclusivity and a new governance order,” he wrote. “It must, as of necessity, be dominated by young people.”
His comments come amid growing political realignments following recent collaboration between former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Martha Karua, a development Kabando welcomed.
He praised the two leaders—once seen on opposite sides of the political spectrum, for working together under the emerging #Wamunyoro movement, calling it an “indisputable unstoppable impetus for opposition unity of purpose.”
Kabando added that while Gachagua “made his mistakes and has apologised repeatedly,” others involved in what he termed “fraudulent politics” must also come forward and take responsibility.
. @rigathi made his mistakes and has apologised repeatedly for that. It’s now up to others who’re still conning Kenyans via fraudulent politics to own up and atone. #wamunyoro is an indisputable unstoppable impetus for opposition unity of purpose. Then, Accountability Charter!
Youth at the Centre
The former MP’s remarks strongly emphasized the role of young people in shaping the next political dispensation, reflecting the growing influence of Gen Z activists in national conversations around governance and accountability.
Kabando called for a “New Order, New Dawn,” describing a vision of leadership grounded in integrity, equity, and generational renewal.
“We’ll remove Ruto, yes, and replace his gluttonous era with a fresh Gen Z-spirited dispensation,” he said.
Praise for Opposition Leaders
Kabando also extended his support to several opposition figures, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, and ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
He credited them for contributing to what he sees as a growing national push for political transformation.
He also urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta to continue encouraging youth to play a more active role in shaping Kenya’s future.
Kabando’s open support for the Gachagua-Karua partnership signals a potential shift in Mt Kenya politics and adds to the momentum behind calls for a unified opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
