NYAHURURU, Kenya- Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata’s driver was shot on Sunday following an attack on leaders of the Linda Mwananchi movement in Nyahururu, leaving him with a bullet lodged in his chest.
In a statement, Kang’ata said the group came under attack while attending a church service before the violence escalated during a rally.
“We were first stoned while in church. My vehicle was blocked and confiscated. My driver was injured by police. He has a bullet lodged on his chest,” Kang’ata said.
The governor said his driver was receiving medical treatment following the shooting.
“My driver was shot by the police,” the Governor said.
The incident occurred amid heightened political tensions during Linda Mwananchi activities in Nyahururu.
