NYAHURURU, Kenya- Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata’s driver was shot on Sunday after armed goons attacked a group of Linda Mwananchi supporters in Nyahururu Town, triggering a violent confrontation.
The driver sustained a gunshot wound to the chest during the incident and was rushed for medical attention.
Governor Kang’ata confirmed the shooting by sharing a photograph showing his injured driver lying on the ground with what appeared to be a bullet entry wound on his chest.
The attack occurred shortly after Linda Mwananchi leaders relocated their political activities from Ol Kalou to Nyahururu, citing intelligence that there were plans to disrupt their events ahead of the July 16 Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
Eyewitnesses said the confrontation broke out after armed goons descended on the gathering, sparking panic as supporters fled for safety. Police were deployed to the scene as the situation escalated.
The incident marks the latest in a series of violent episodes surrounding political activities linked to the high-stakes Ol Kalou by-election.
Earlier on Sunday, one person was injured after armed men attempted to storm St. Stephen’s ACK Cathedral in Kisumu, where Siaya Governor James Orengo and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna were attending a church service.
