NAIROBI, Kenya- Several people are feared dead and others injured following a multiple-vehicle crash along the Nakuru–Eldoret Highway near Salgaa in Nakuru County.
The crash occurred on Saturday, August 22, 2026, near Simba Cement and involved several vehicles, including a long-distance truck.
Police and emergency response teams rushed to the scene as efforts to rescue victims and clear the wreckage got underway.
A witness at the scene said the truck driver had died in the crash, while the turnboy survived.
The exact number of fatalities and injuries had not been officially established at the time of reporting.
The crash caused a major traffic snarl-up along the busy highway, with motorists advised to approach the area with caution as emergency teams continued their operations.
The Local Drivers and Conductors Association (LODDCA) also issued an accident alert to motorists using the route.
The incident adds to Salgaa’s long history as an accident black spot.
Government records presented in Parliament showed that 448 accidents were recorded along the Salgaa and Sachangwan sections of the Nakuru–Eldoret Highway between 2007 and 2017, including 229 fatal crashes that left 388 people dead.
One of the area’s deadliest tragedies occurred in 2009 when an overturned oil tanker spilled fuel before bursting into flames, killing 140 people.
The cause of Saturday’s crash had not been established as rescue and recovery operations continued.
