359,144 Students Score Below D+ in 2025 KCSE Exams

Date:

ELDORET, Kenya — A total of 359,144 candidates scored D, D- and E grades in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, according to the Ministry of Education.

Despite these lower grades, the results indicate an overall improvement in student performance compared to 2024.

Cabinet Secretary for Education Julius Migos Ogamba reported that 507,131 candidates (50.92 percent) achieved a grade of C- and above, up from 476,889 (49.41 percent) the previous year—grades that are crucial for eligibility for direct university entry.

In addition, 634,082 students (63.67 percent) scored a pass grade of D+ and above, an increase from 605,774 (62.76 percent) in 2024.

CS Migos said the gains reflect broader progress across the country’s education system.

“The 2025 results demonstrate steady progress in Kenya’s education system, with more students meeting both pass and university-entry requirements,” he said.

The Ministry emphasized that quality teaching, equitable access, and examination integrity remain central to sustaining this upward trend in student achievement.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) continues to monitor and release official results to guide students, schools, and higher education institutions nationwide.
