NAIROBI, Kenya- Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced that the Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit will adopt a multi-agency framework aimed at strengthening coordination, enforcement, and overall security within the capital.
Murkomen said he convened a technical committee meeting on Monday to review the proposed structure, command framework, and rollout strategy of the new unit, which is currently being operationalised.
He said the unit is anchored on a cooperation agreement between the National Government and the Nairobi City County Government, and is expected to become fully operational by May 1.
According to the CS, the initiative is designed to deliver a more responsive, efficient, and accountable policing system within the metropolitan area, improving safety for residents, visitors, and investors.
The meeting was attended by senior security and government officials, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat, DIG Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, and DCI Director Mohamed Amin.
Also present were Principal Administrative Secretaries Beverly Opwora and Jacob Narengo, alongside officials from the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Nairobi City County Government.
Murkomen said the multi-agency approach will enhance seamless coordination among security agencies as part of broader reforms in urban policing.
