NAIROBI, Kenya- Detectives have arrested a 59-year-old man who had been on the run following the fatal stabbing of his wife during a domestic dispute in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Charles Maina Karungae Kibue, was apprehended in Kayole after investigators tracked him using forensic leads following the incident that occurred on June 14.
Police said the victim, 47-year-old Elizabeth Wambui, was attacked at her shop in the Delta area of Mwihoko Township after a disagreement between the couple escalated into violence.
Investigators allege that during the confrontation, Kibue stabbed Wambui on the right side of the chest using a spearhead before fleeing the scene.
Officers from Mwihoko Police Station who responded to the incident found Wambui lying in a pool of blood and rushed her to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) for treatment.
However, she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body was later moved to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.
Detectives processing the crime scene recovered a bloodstained spearhead believed to have been used in the attack. The weapon has been preserved as an exhibit as investigations continue.
Following the incident, police launched a manhunt for the suspect, who had disappeared immediately after the alleged killing.
Authorities said detectives from Githurai eventually tracked him to a hideout in Kayole, Nairobi, where he was arrested.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court once processing is complete.
Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
