NTSA Urges Motorists To Collect Smart Driving Licences, Warns Against Brokers

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has urged motorists whose Smart Driving Licences are ready to collect them from the centres where their biometric details were captured, while warning applicants against dealing with brokers.

In a public notice dated Friday, October 16, 2026, the authority asked applicants to return to the respective centres where they completed biometric registration to pick up their licences.

“We urge our esteemed clients to collect their smart driving licence from the centres where their biometrics were captured,” NTSA said.

The authority also assured motorists that its services remain directly accessible to applicants, urging them to track their applications through official channels rather than relying on intermediaries.

“Do not deal with brokers. We have made our processes completely transparent, giving you full control without any need for brokers or intermediaries,” the notice added.

NTSA Warns Applicants Against Brokers

The notice comes amid NTSA’s continued efforts to discourage the use of brokers in accessing driving licences and other transport-related services.

Brokers have been accused of exploiting applicants seeking assistance with licence applications and other procedures, sometimes charging extra fees for services motorists can pursue directly.

NTSA urged applicants to use its official platforms to check the status of their documents and avoid paying third parties to facilitate collection.

Motorists should carry valid identification when visiting collection centres and confirm that their licences are ready before travelling.

Smart Driving Licences Replace Paper Documents

The Smart Driving Licence replaced Kenya’s older paper-based driving document and incorporates security features designed to make verification easier.

The card consolidates a driver’s information into a machine-readable format, supporting identification and verification by relevant authorities.

NTSA’s latest notice reminds motorists that applicants whose licences are ready can collect them directly from the centres where their biometrics were captured, without using brokers or intermediaries.
