NAIROBI, Kenya-Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has sparked fresh controversy after declaring that he wants to be buried within 48 hours if he dies in the hands of state operatives.
Speaking during a press briefing on Friday, Tuju said he had already instructed his family to move with speed and exclude the government entirely from his funeral arrangements.
“I’ve told my people very clearly… when I die, I want to be buried within 48 hours. I don’t want to see any state participating,” he said.
The former Jubilee Party Secretary-General said he is mentally prepared for any eventuality, including what he described as possible torture, amid ongoing legal and political battles surrounding his recent arrest and claims of abduction.
Tuju further alleged that he had been trailed and even assaulted after presenting himself to authorities, raising concerns over his personal safety.
His remarks come against the backdrop of heightened tensions linked to his court cases and disputes over contested properties, which have drawn national attention in recent days.
In a striking tone, Tuju insisted he has come to terms with his fate, warning that his experience reflects broader fears among ordinary Kenyans.
“I’m ready for anything,” he said.
