NAIROBI, Kenya — Fresh political and social intrigue is swirling after a close associate of entrepreneur Sarah Mtalii was unveiled as a new member of Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua welcomed lawyer Peter Mwenda Njagi into the party on Monday, April 20.
Njagi, who previously contested the Thika Town parliamentary seat in the 2022 elections under the Safina Party, now joins DCP at a time when the outfit is positioning itself for future electoral contests.
In a social media post, Gachagua while signaling the party’s next steps and the lawyer’s future political ambitions emphasized of a commitment to transparent and competitive nominations.
He noted that all aspirants, including Njagi, would be subjected to fair primaries, with party membership registration playing a key role in determining candidates.
“I have assured Wakili Mwenda, as I do to all our aspirants, that our primaries will be conducted transparently and fairly. Wakili Mwenda now has a responsibility to continue with the registration of party members, as the party register will be used during the nominations,” he noted.
The development has drawn added attention due to Njagi’s personal connection to Sarah Mtalii, popularly known as Sarah Kabu, Managing Director of Bonfire Adventures.
The two went public with their relationship late last year, following her separation from Bonfire chairman Simon Kabu.
Their relationship first caught public interest during a romantic getaway in Nanyuki, where Mtalii described Njagi as her “pillar of strength” and “number-one cheerleader.”
Reports indicate that Njagi also represented her during her divorce proceedings.
