President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will not attend the upcoming wedding celebrations of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., choosing instead to remain at the White House amid pressing government matters and escalating international concerns.
The announcement came through a statement posted on Truth Social, where Trump explained that national responsibilities and ongoing developments surrounding the conflict involving Iran had made it impossible for him to travel for the family event.
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote. He added that he felt it was important to remain in Washington during what he described as a critical period.

The decision follows days of speculation regarding whether the president would attend the event. Earlier in the week, Trump had suggested he would attempt to make the trip but admitted the timing was difficult due to growing international pressures.
Speaking previously about the event, Trump described the situation as “not good timing,” referencing the ongoing crisis involving Iran and other responsibilities that demanded his attention in Washington.
White House scheduling adjustments also reflected the shift in priorities. Earlier plans for Trump to spend the Memorial Day weekend at his Bedminster golf property in New Jersey were revised, with the president instead expected to return to Washington for official work.
While Trump will not be physically present, attention has now turned toward the wedding itself, which has reportedly been designed as a smaller and highly private affair.
Donald Trump Jr. is marrying Bettina Anderson, a Palm Beach socialite and model who has become a familiar figure within Trump family circles in recent months.
The couple had already legally tied the knot in a Florida ceremony before their larger celebration weekend. The legal ceremony was held ahead of what sources describe as a more intimate destination gathering in the Bahamas.
The main wedding celebrations are expected to take place on a private island in the Bahamas with a guest list reportedly kept under 50 people. Sources close to the family say the couple intentionally opted for a smaller event in order to maintain privacy and avoid an overly public spectacle.
Interestingly, reports suggest the couple had initially explored the possibility of holding some form of celebration at the White House.
However, changing geopolitical circumstances and increased public scrutiny surrounding international developments appear to have influenced a move toward a more private destination gathering.
The president had earlier remarked that whichever decision he made could attract criticism, suggesting that attending the wedding might draw questions over priorities while remaining absent would also generate headlines.
Despite his absence, Trump ended his public message on a supportive note, congratulating the newlyweds and welcoming Bettina into the family.
Donald Trump Jr. was previously married to Vanessa Trump, with whom he shares five children, before later becoming engaged to television personality Kimberly Guilfoyle.
His relationship with Anderson later developed into an engagement announced in late 2025 before culminating in the current wedding celebrations.
