NEW YORK, United States- U.S. President Donald Trump will attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final and help present the trophy to the winning team, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed.
Speaking during an appearance on Fox News, Infantino said Trump would be present at the tournament’s final on July 19 at the New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and would take part in the trophy presentation ceremony.
“We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course,” Infantino said. When asked whether the pair would jointly present the trophy, he replied: “Of course, we are together all the time.”
The announcement confirms speculation that Trump would attend at least one match during the tournament, which is being jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
While he has not attended any group-stage matches so far, the White House had reportedly reserved time in his schedule for the final.
The World Cup final will be played at the New York New Jersey Stadium, which is also set to host eight matches during the tournament.
The United States is hosting 78 of the 104 matches in the expanded 48-team competition.
Trump’s involvement in the trophy presentation marks a departure from recent FIFA practice, where the FIFA president has typically handed the trophy to the winning captain.
Under the reported arrangement, Trump and Infantino will jointly present the trophy after the final.
The decision follows Trump’s appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup final last year, where he presented the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James.
His participation drew global attention after he remained on the podium during the team’s celebrations.
Infantino and Trump have developed a close working relationship in recent years, with the FIFA chief frequently appearing alongside the U.S. president at football-related events.
Trump was also present during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Draw in Washington, D.C., alongside leaders from Canada and Mexico.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, the largest in the tournament’s history, began on June 11 and will conclude with the final on July 19, when the next world champions will be crowned before a global audience of billions.
