NAIROBI, Kenya — A 26-year-old woman was arrested after police allegedly discovered bhang hidden inside a loaf of bread she had taken to her boyfriend at Buruburu Police Station.
Bernice Achieng had visited the station to see her boyfriend, who is being held in police custody, and asked officers to deliver the loaf to him.
According to police, officers became suspicious after noticing that the bread package had been opened.
A search allegedly uncovered five rolls of bhang and a matchbox hidden inside the loaf.
Seven More Rolls Found in Jacket
Police said the discovery prompted officers to conduct a further search of Achieng.
They allegedly found another seven rolls of bhang concealed in a pocket of her jacket.
This brought the total number of rolls recovered from her to 12, according to the police account.
Achieng was taken into custody, with the recovered items secured as exhibits.
She is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
Motorcycle Chase Ends in Thika Crash
In a separate incident in Thika, police arrested a suspected drug peddler after a motorcycle chase ended in a crash.
Police said the suspect, identified as John Mwangi alias “Bombay,” was riding with a female passenger when the two encountered a police roadblock in the Kairi area of Thika West.
The rider allegedly accelerated in an attempt to evade the officers.
300 Rolls of Bhang Recovered
The chase ended near Ree Supermarket, where police said Mwangi lost control of the motorcycle after hitting a speed bump.
The motorcycle crashed, allowing the female passenger to flee into the crowd.
Mwangi was arrested at the scene, according to police.
A subsequent search of the motorcycle allegedly led to the recovery of 300 rolls of bhang.
Police also recovered an additional 3 kilogrammes of suspected bhang wrapped in yellow polythene and strapped to the motorcycle seat.
Suspect Held Pending Arraignment
Mwangi was taken to Kimuchu Police Station, where he is being held as police process the case.
The recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits, according to the police.
Both cases are expected to proceed to court, where the suspects will have an opportunity to respond to the charges against them.
