ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — The African Union Commission has called on Ethiopia, Eritrea and Egypt to exercise maximum restraint amid heightened tensions between the three countries.
In a statement, the AU Commission said it was closely monitoring the situation and warned against actions or statements that could further escalate tensions and undermine peace and stability in the region.
The continental body urged the three countries to preserve channels of communication and resolve their differences through diplomatic channels and peaceful dialogue.
The AU said such efforts should be guided by the principles of the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
AU Offers To Support De-Escalation
The Commission said it was ready to support efforts aimed at reducing tensions and facilitating dialogue among the three countries.
“The AU Commission stands ready, in consultation with the countries concerned, to support efforts towards de-escalation, dialogue and the peaceful resolution of differences,” the statement said.
The latest appeal comes amid heightened regional tensions involving Ethiopia, Eritrea and Egypt, with the AU urging the parties to prioritise diplomatic engagement and avoid steps that could threaten regional stability.
