Several Feared Dead in Fatal Night Crash Along Mombasa Road

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Several people are feared dead after a fatal nighttime accident along Mombasa Road involving a shuttle headed to Loitoktok, a lorry, and a bus from Mombasa.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing at least six bodies on the road.

Authorities say all casualties were passengers of the shuttle.

“There are still people trapped in the wreckage of the shuttle,” a witness told Y News. “It was a horrifying sight with bodies scattered along the roadside.”

Rescue efforts are ongoing as police, traffic officers, and ambulance crews work to extract the injured and transport them to nearby hospitals.

Early estimates indicate six fatalities, though official confirmation is still awaited.

The Nairobi–Mombasa Highway, one of Kenya’s busiest road corridors, has a history of deadly accidents involving buses, passenger vehicles, and heavy trucks.

Past crashes have highlighted persistent concerns over road safety and driver behaviour.

Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution, especially at night.
