NAIROBI, Kenya—Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is set to lead Kenya’s delegation to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the unveiling of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga’s pan-African vision and strategic priorities for the African Union.
Mudavadi, who leaves the country tonight, will preside over a reception hosted by Kenya to mobilise support for Raila’s candidature for the position of the AUC chairperson among all heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the African Union.
“This engagement with the Permanent Representatives Committee of the AU is a follow up to the official launch by President William Ruto of Raila’s candidature in Nairobi on August 27, 2014,” said a statement from Mudavadi’s office.
The event is organised by the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs under the leadership of Korir Sing’oei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, together with Raila’s Secretariat, chaired by Ambassador Elkanah Odembo.
“Raila will use the platform to engage with AU’s other stakeholders and partners on his plan of action for Africa’s transformation,” the statement further reads.
Earlier, Y News reported that Raila’s campaign secretariat announced that it will host a series of events in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Friday, November 8, 2024.
Key among them is to formally unveil him to the continent as the Republic of Kenya’s candidate for chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
“It is meant to provide a platform for the candidate to engage with core players, formations and partners of the AU,” the statement posted on Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party X account reads in part.
According to the Secretariat, Raila will use the forum to outline his Pan-African vision and priorities per the AU Agenda 2063.
“The candidate will crown the activities with a keynote address at the Grand Campaign Reception to be held at the AU Multipurpose Hall on the evening of November 8, 2024.
