American rapper Kodak Black has been arrested in Florida on a felony drug trafficking charge involving MDMA, adding to the artist’s long-running history of legal troubles.
The rapper, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, was taken into custody on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, and booked into the Orange County Jail in Florida, where he is currently being held without bond.
Kodak Black is facing a first-degree felony charge of trafficking MDMA(commonly known as ecstasy or molly) involving an alleged amount between 14 and 200 grams.
The arrest stems from an investigation that began in Orlando in November 2025.
Authorities allege that law enforcement officers discovered suspected narcotics, large amounts of cash and firearms inside a Lamborghini SUV that Kodak Black was seen near during the investigation.
Investigators claim the vehicle contained a bag holding approximately 25 grams of MDMA, around $37,000 in cash and documents bearing Kapri’s name.
Police also allege that Kodak Black’s fingerprints were found on a bottle of prescription cough syrup recovered inside the bag.
Despite the allegations, the rapper’s legal team has pushed back strongly against the charges.
His attorney, Bradford Cohen, said Kodak Black voluntarily surrendered to authorities and argued that the case against the rapper lacks a strong legal foundation.
According to Cohen, Kodak Black was not a passenger inside the Lamborghini SUV at the time police conducted the search.
Kodak Black is expected to make his first court appearance regarding the charges on Thursday afternoon.
Under Florida law, trafficking MDMA in the quantities listed in the charge is considered a serious first-degree felony and can carry severe penalties if a conviction occurs.
Over the years, the rapper has become almost as well known for his legal controversies as for his music career.
Kodak Black rose to fame in the mid-2010s with tracks such as “No Flockin,” “Tunnel Vision” and “Super Gremlin,” establishing himself as one of the most commercially successful rappers from Florida.
His gritty storytelling style and Southern rap sound helped him build a loyal fan base and achieve major chart success.
However, much of his career has also been overshadowed by arrests, probation violations and drug-related cases.
In 2022, Kodak Black was arrested in Florida on oxycodone trafficking charges after authorities allegedly found controlled substances in his possession during a traffic stop.
A year later, he was arrested again in South Florida on charges related to cocaine possession and evidence tampering, though some of those allegations were later dismissed.
The rapper has also faced previous weapons charges and probation-related legal battles throughout his career.
At different points, Kodak Black has spoken publicly about struggling with substance abuse and legal pressures while trying to maintain his music career.
The latest arrest comes only weeks after another person connected to the rapper made headlines over separate drug trafficking allegations.
Jammiah Broomfield, the mother of one of Kodak Black’s children, was recently arrested in Fort Lauderdale on drug trafficking charges, according to local reports.
The timing of both cases has further intensified public attention around the rapper and his inner circle.
