NAIROBI, Kenya — Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has congratulated the people of Ol Kalou Constituency following the outcome of the parliamentary by-election, commending voters for what he described as their resilience in the face of alleged political pressure.

In a statement posted on X after the declaration of results, Sifuna praised residents of the constituency and congratulated Sammy Kamau and the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) on their victory.

“Hats off to the people of Ol Kalou. Everything was thrown at you; bribery, violence, intimidation, state power, but you stood firm. Congratulations to Sammy Kamau and the entire DCP team for that resounding victory,” Sifuna wrote.

Reaction Follows DCP’s Landslide Win

Sifuna’s remarks came after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru the winner of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

The DCP candidate secured a decisive victory over his closest challenger, Samuel Muchina Nyagah of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The by-election attracted national attention, with political leaders viewing it as a significant contest ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Claims Reflect Political Response

In his statement, Sifuna alleged that voters faced bribery, violence, intimidation and the use of state power during the campaign period but chose to vote according to their conscience.

The IEBC has maintained that the by-election was conducted in accordance with the law, while acknowledging isolated incidents that it said were addressed during the voting process.

The commission thanked voters, election officials, security agencies, political parties, observers and the media for contributing to what it described as a peaceful and orderly electoral exercise.

Political Reactions Continue

Sifuna joins a growing list of political leaders who have reacted to the outcome of the Ol Kalou by-election, with both government and opposition figures interpreting the result as politically significant ahead of the next general election.
