OL KALOU, Kenya — The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially declared Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) the duly elected Member of the National Assembly for Ol Kalou Constituency following the parliamentary by-election held on July 16, 2026.

Returning Officer Antony Njiraine announced the results after the completion of tallying, with Kamau securing a landslide victory over eight other candidates.

Kamau garnered 35,440 votes, while Samuel Muchina Nyagah of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) finished second with 5,450 votes.

Voter Turnout

The electoral commission reported that Ol Kalou Constituency had 73,480 registered voters.

A total of 41,656 votes were cast, translating to a 57 per cent voter turnout.

IEBC Commends Stakeholders

Following the successful conclusion of the by-election, the electoral commission thanked voters and all stakeholders who participated in the process.

In a statement, the IEBC expressed appreciation to voters, candidates, political parties, election officials, security agencies, accredited observers, the media and other stakeholders for contributing to what it described as a peaceful and orderly electoral process.

The commission also reminded the public that the official by-election results are available through its online results portal.

The Ol Kalou by-election was conducted to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant following the death of former Member of Parliament David Njuguna Kiaraho in March 2026.

The contest attracted significant national attention, with political leaders viewing it as an important test of political support in the Mt. Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
